Today, in honour of the appearance day of Srila Bhakti Sundar Govinda Dev-Goswami Maharaj, we are presenting a poem written by Srila Bhakti Nirmal Acharya Maharaj in 1997 on this occasion accompanied by a verbal explanation of the poem by Srila Acharyadev. This poem fills one of the inner walls of the Temple of Love and Affection.

Sri Sri Guru-Gaurangau Jayataḥ
All Glories to Sri Guru and Sri Gauranga
Srila Bhakti Nirmal Acharya Maharaj
āpanāke jānāi koṭi daṇḍavat nati
chira-dina oi pade thāke yena mati [1]
I offer you ten million prostrate obeisances so that my heart remains at your feet forever.
māyā pāśe yadi phā̐si ye kona samaya
taribāra lāgi yena, ḍāki go tomāya [2]
I may be hung by Mayā’s rope at any time; thus I call you to rescue me.
sādhu, guru, vaiṣṇavera gāne, sukha pāi
yakhana yā khuśīmane, takhani tā gāi [3]
I feel joy by singing about Sadhu, Guru, and Vaishav. When I feel this joy, I sing whimsically according to it.
pāpa pūrṇa lābha kṣati, nāhika vichāra
jāni, vaiṣṇava kṛpāte saba yābe anāchāra [4]
I do not consider whether my sins will be destroyed. I simply know that by the mercy of the Vaiṣṇav all wrongdoing will go away.
tā̐dera guṇa-gāna-śakti, mora kabhu nāi
tabu pāgalera mata, ki ye yena gāi [5]
I have never had any ability to sing the Vaishnavs’ glories. Still, like a madman, I sing whatever comes to mind.
sādhu, guru, vaiṣṇava, kṛṣṇera prāṇa-dhana
tā̐dera pada-jala-reṇu māge mora mana [6]
Sadhu, Guru, and Vaishnav are the life and wealth of Krishna. My heart prays for their foot-dust and foot-wash.
manera pipāsā baḍa sādhu sane vāsa
sarvasva tyajiyā tāi kari abhilāṣa [7]
My heart greatly desires to live with the Sadhus. Abandoning all else, I desire this alone.
tā̐dera charaṇe kata koṭi pāpa kari
mana tabu paḍe thāke oi pada dhari [8]
I commit many tens of millions of sins at their feet. Still, my heart bows before them and clasps their feet.
ārao kata bale mana, koṭi duḥkha sahi
janme janme yena āmi, oi pade rahi [9]
And my heart says even more: I endure ten million troubles so that birth after birth I remain at their feet.
haṭhāt deśe uṭhala sārā, śahara theke sakala pāḍā,
vichitra kutūhale
sakale āja ānandete, ekatre saba uṭhala mete,
nāche gāya dale dale [10]
Suddenly throughout the land and all the neighbourhoods of the town an extraordinary wonder arose. Today everyone joyfully gathered together, and enthusiastically danced and sang in groups.
bhakta-gaṇa saba avirata śraddhāñjali dicchhe kata,
śrī-maṭhete āsi
gauḍa deśera hṛdaya mājhe, yena sakāla, dupura, sā̐je,
bājachhe mohana vā̐mśī [11]
All the devotees are constantly presenting many offerings and coming to the maṭhs. In the heart of the land of Gauda, morning, noon and evening, there was the playing of an enchanting flute.
śubha āṭhāroi disembara, kṛṣṇa-dvitīyā buddha-bāra
barddhamānera ākāśa kari ālo
bāmuna pāḍāra bāmuna ghare, janama nilā jīvera tare,
apūrva sundara śiśu mohaniyā bhālo [12]
On Wednesday the eighteenth of December, on the second night of the waning moon, the sky of Barddhman was illuminated. An unprecedentedly beautiful, enchantingly wonderful child took birth in Bamunpada (a neighbourhhood of brahmans) in the house of a bamun (brahman), for the sake of the souls.
śrī taraṅgiṇī devī mātā, nitāi pada, nitya pitā,
śrī devakī-vasudeva sama
guru-rūpe nanda-kumāra, yena kṛpā karilā e bāra.
jīvera nāśibe rajaḥ tama [13]
Mother Sri Tarangini Devi and Father Nitai Pada, were like Devaki and Vasudev. This time Nanda Kumar bestowed His mercy in the form of guru and will destroy the passion and ignorance of the souls.
sei śiśu āja mahājana, bhakti sundara govinda dhana,
jagatera ananta gaurava
brahmāṇḍa bhediyā goloka dhāma, sarvatra prakāśa tomāra nāma,
he prabhu, tava sevā-saurabha [14]
That child today is now the great soul, the treasure, Srila Bhakti Sundar Govinda Dev-Goswami Maharaj, whose glory within this world is unlimited. Oh master! Piercing into this material universe from Goloka Dham, your name and the fragrance of your service are manifest everywhere.
tomāra komala murati āja, gā̐thā raya yena hṛdaya mājha,
chintiba o pada niti
bhakta sajjana mile kata, mahimā rachibe śata śata,
ke kata gāhibe tava gīti [15]
Today your soft form is carved unn my heart. I will always meditate on your feet. Many good devotees meet who will write hundreds and hundreds of your glories and sing your songs.
pāiyā tava śītala charaṇa, maṅgalākāṅkṣī karibe varaṇa,
parābe phulera mālā
jīvera lāgi dharile kāyā, tomāra bhaye pālābe māya,
juḍābe jagata jvālā [16]
Obtaining your cooling feet, those desiring true welfare will embrace them and adorned them with flower garlands. You accepted a body for the sake of the souls. In fear of you, Maya will flee and you will relieve the burning world.
rājāsanera rājā yemana, tomāra śobhā ājake temana,
rājā michhe, tumi nitya satya
agādha tava śāstra jñāne, golokera sei nitya-dhane,
bilāo bharuk ārtta jīvera chitta [17]
Today your beauty resembles a king upon his thrown, though you are eternal and true while a king false. May you fulfil the anxious hearts of the souls by distributing your boundless scriptural knowledge—the eternal wealth of Golok.
paramparāra sūtra dhare, āsiyāchha medinī pare,
prakāśite jīvoddhāra līlā
kṛpāra ādhāra guru-mahārāja, tomāte sarva-śakti sañchāra,
kariyā sva-hiṁāsana dilā [18]
You have come in the line of the parampara to this Earth to manifest your Pastimes of delivering the souls. Merciful Srila Guru Maharaj fully empowered you and established you on his seat.
chira paṅkila dharaṇī-tale, śuddha bhakati prakaṭa karile—
yena apūrva chinmaya saroja
tāra sumadhura divya gandha, tomāra mājhāre ā̐kichhe chhanda,
bilābe sakale prema-varaja [19]
You manifested pure devotion on the muddy surface of the Earth like a wonderful spiritual lotus. Its sweet, divine fragrance will distribute the prem of Vraja to everyone—(draws desires) within you.
tava kṛpā-taru-śītala chhāyā, e duḥkhī-jana yena ṭhā̐i pāya,
ohe dīna-dayāla ṭhākura
tumi navodita nirmala bhāskara, dayāmaya deva bhakati sundara,
bhāvio tomāra kukura [20]
This sorrowful soul has a place in the cooling shade of the tree of your mercy. Oh lord who is merciful to the distressed! You are are newly risen, spotless sun. Oh merciful lord, Sri Bhakti Sundar, consider my your dog.
śrī bhakti-rakṣaka prabhu śrī śridhara, tomāke bānāla bhava karṇa-dhāra,
mo sama patita lāgi
tāi tava śubha āvirbhāv dine, gati nāi ai charaṇa vihane,
e patita kā̐de kṛpā māgī [21]
Lord Srila Bhakti Raksak Sridhar made you the captain of this world for the sake of fallen souls like me. Thus, on your auspicious appearance day, having no shelter other than your feet, this fallen souls cries and prays for your mercy.
